shadow of self
I know a man
who sold his soul
and followed the dream
suppressing the knowledge
it belonged to some other
He seeks new challenge
to interest himself
each time ignoring
the nagging protest
of a voice from within
Not like the others
able to befriend those around
visibly fluid with people
masking what should be obvious
he is alone in the crowd
As he presses each checkpoint
he forfeits something more
losing sight of importance
addictive bering sneaks in
he is his own worst enemy
This man once had visions
certain clarity of mind
sub-concious beacons in darkness
guiding his journey through time
now the images all hidden
He has become but a shadow of self
longing return to his own
hosting inner turmoil
seeking the strength to pursue
that which defines who he is
